Debt collectors
Can someone please help. I have a friend that was contacted by Buchanan clark and Wells first letter they made a formal demand for a debt that my friend had paid 2 years ago. As a receipt could not be found I wrote a cheque for the amount and this was posted, receipt was sent by BCW stating cheque no. and subject to clearance. The cheque cleared. Thinking that this would be the end of the matter.
Over a month later another letter was recieved stating a personal visist by debt investigation officer. Phone calls were made to my friends mobile the company were quite nasty, my friend blocked their number to her phone.
A long letter was sent expaining that the money had been paid date of cheque, cheque no, my name, bank statement showing that the cheque had cleared, copy of the receipt They even told BCW that they would only deal with them through written correspondence. Letter was sent by recorded delivery which BCW did recieve. A letter dated 2 days after they recieved my friends letter, BCW sent A FINAL NOTICE stating that unless they recieve payment they will start court proceedings. They have taken money from my bank account and are not acknowledging that they have it. What can we do?

I would take along all the correspondence including, if possible, your bank statement showing that the funds were taken from your account. They really are the best people to help you with this and they may be able to contact the debt company themselves to straighten it out. Good luck,
