Does he have to pay the mortgage
My husband left myself and my one year old middle of last year. He cleared the house out and left it bare. He cancelled all the bills except the morrtage and has carried on paying it. We do not speak. We are going through solicitors but the last letter he wants to stop paying it. I cannot afford to carry on paying it. I have called my mortage advisor who couldnt really help and dont seem to get a proper awnser out of my solicitor. Can someone advise me does he have to pay the mortgage whilst myself and my little girl are still there we have know were to go?It is a joint mortgage

perhaps the best thing to do would be to sell the house and start afresh with something smaller, now that there are only the 2 of you. There are so many variables, its impossible to answer really, you must be guided by your solicitor. For example, depending on how much you earn, you might have to pay a bigger share

Im sorry to tell you this but I went through the exact same thing last year and NO he does not have to pay the mortgage! As it is a joint mortgage the mortgae company dont actually care who pays as long as it is ! I spoke to them as i was paying my half but the just said if i didnt come up with the rest it would be repossesed. i went to a solicitor to ask about making him pay his half but basically you cant! As for the myth of him having too help towards housing child, according to my solicitor this is not actually the case. The best thing you can do is ask him to transfer house soley into your name and struggle on babe. Im afraid to say that you wont get very far getting money from him if he isnt offering it x
