Should I pay myself a salary based on a 37 hour week or should I be paid for the hours I work? I am a consultant for the construction industry working as a planning consultant. My invoices to clients are based on hours worked for them. Hope this helps

You are using the term 'director' which implies you have your own limited company, and the company is invoicing the client. If so. it is entirely up to you to decide how much money you take out of the business - it doesn't have to be the same amount as your company is changing the client.
If you are straight self-employed, I agree with Zacmaster.
