Are there any records of conscripts who fought in the English Civil War.

I mean anyone who fought in the civil war. There is a gap in the birth of children of one of my ancestors that coincides with the duration of he war.Is it possible to find out whom he fought with, where and on which side.

there was no regular army in england prior to the outbreak of the civil war in 1642; individual regiments were raised to meet a specific local or national need, and were usually named after the person who raised them.
Because of the above method of raising an army, to search for serving records would be fairly pointless, as there was not structure or ranking system that could be considered equivalent to the modern standing army of post 1707.

The best probable research would be in the local record office covering the manor or parish where the ancestor lived, estate papers or quarter session records would likely show any instance of an army being raised from the local peasantry, and in particular Militia lists may survive within the quarter session papers
