If my pro rate salary is 21,000, what is my gross monthly salary? I have just received my first pay packet and I am sure it is wrong. I really should have paid more attention in Maths lessons!
21000/12 = 1750 before tax
take tax as around 22%
(1750/100)*78 = 1365
then you have any benefits that the company charge you for like pensions etc... comming off of that but then pensions have a different tax althogether
When calculating the tax you have to pay you need to take into account your personal allowance - this is how much you can earn before you start to pay tax. It's probably about 5.5k at the moment, you then pay tax at 20%.
Also, any pension payments you make through your pay are taken out before tax is taken off.
It also won't hurt to get some maths lessons. I can't believe that anyone is so dense as to be unable to divide 21,000 by 12. You don't work in my company's pay office by any chance do you?
Your Tax Code on your pay slip tells you what what your allowance is, it should be a 3 figure number. Add a nought(0) to the end of it and you will have an amount which is the amount of money you can earn before tax/year .Multiply the remainder by 20% (divide by 5) and you will have a figure which is the amount of tax you will pay annually. Take this away from 21000 after dividing it by 12 to get your monthly pay. Look at the amount you have been charged in national Insurance which will also be deducted and your left with your monthly pay.
