which banks or building societies should I avoid in case they are somehow connected with the Halifax bank Plc.
I have the maximum amount invested with the halifax and I want the rest of my money to be safe.

Ethel you are wrong about the Royal Bank of Scotland being part of HBOS, its the Bank of Scotland.

The Royal Bank of Scotland are rivals to HBOS and own Nat West.
