Quite a few places that accept Visa/Mastercard do not accept AE because it is more expensive. Take a look at company barclaycard. That's who we use.
I have been advised that AE are only really convenient if you do a lot of internatinal travel, and want a simple way to pay without dealing in loads of different currencies. This outweighs the admin. costs raised by running the account, and paying your balance off at the time of billing. If you want the six weeks free credit that careful use of a standard credit card will give you, I'd explore other options.
It's probably not a good idea to have one as a company card as I've also found a number of places which don't take it which can be very inconvenient.
I have an AMEX blue card because it gives the best cashback rate, 0.5% up to 2000 spend and 1.0% above that per annum. This only benefits someone such as myself who pays it off in full each month, otherwise the cashback is nullified by the percentage rate on balances compared to some other cards. Also as pointed out previously it is not accepted everywhere so I supplement it with a Capital One Circle card which gives 0.5% cashback on all purchases and is accepted everywhere.
I have an Amex charge card and I only ever use it in the US and far East. Many places in the UK do not accept it as they are charged up to 6.5% of the transaction value as opposed to around 2.5% for Visa etc. The card is very expensive (massive annual fee) but does come with very comprehensive travel insurance (not conditional on charging the holiday to your card as some are) and a very good concierge service for getting tickets for anything, tables in popular restaurants and generally gophering - all with a premium attached to the service though.

If you only want somehting to charge pyments to then I would suggest Visa but for peerles service, prestige and extras I would go with Amex.
