In my opinion it don't make people waste money. However, it can help influence people to choose. Some people make poor choices and spend unnecessarily. The purpose of advertising is to expose or make something known. How would society know of products, anything for that matter if they are not advertised? Think about it.
I don't think so either. Most advertising is aimed at people who are already in the market for the product/service, as it gives the advertising an easier job to do. It's very ambitious of a brand to try and create a 'need' for something, and is rarely successful.
Well it doesn't make me spend money. Just because a product is on tv does not mean I will want to buy it. I usually know what I want.. I think you would have to be very susceptible to be swayed by an advert.
