How to sort out emergency tax

I think my partners tax code is emergency tax. He doesn't have a p45 so how do I sort this out?

He needs to complete a P46 which he can obtain from his employer. They should then send it to the Inland revenue who will in turn be in touch with your partner regarding his previous employment(s). He could send in his employment details direct to the Inland Revenue to speed things up. He should list all his details of employment since the 6th April 2008. He should ask his employer for the tax office address and their PAYE number. He will also need to quote his national insurance number on any correspondence to the Inland Revenue
