International transfer

I have US dollars with someone in the Us and want to have them in the UK - is there a way to transfer them to the UK without changing into Sterling and then back into dollars, as the banking system requires ?

One way would be to open a Dollar account at an American bank in the UK. Or you could just bring them in cash.
