advice on CSCS construction card..

i am looking to get back to work after breaking my collarbone recently and would like to gain my CSCS card (UK).
i was hoping someone could tell me if there is anywhere i can do it for free as i am claiming income support at the moment?
also can anyone tell me what the test involves and how difficult it is.
i have seen a job vacancy that i am interested in going for but it requires me to get a card asap - how long does it take to get a test from a centre and how long after that will i need to wait for a card?

From what i remember working in the Construction industry it is a couple of days course followed by a test. Once you have completed the test you will be sent your card within approx 2 weeks if you pass. There are various test centres throughout the UK.

It might be worth going and speaking with the job centre about doing it if your on Income Support as they do sometimes put people through courses. A lot of the guys here get on courses such as Forklift etc if they can show it will improve the chances of being employed.

1.Yes you can get Govt funding for Test and Card as your are on income support please visit nearby Job Centre for the same.
2.CSCS Test is very Basic Test consist of 50 questions (45 minutes Test - Initial 15 minutes is to practise) you can perpare through Book / DVD from Council Library Free of Cost.
3.Once you Pass the Test you will receive card within 2 week delivered at your home (Normally it is processed within 1 week)
