No your don't. The Consumer Credit Act 1974 only gives you protection if you pay with a Credit Card, and then only if you spend more than 100 and no more than 30,000.
No I don't think so - with a credit card the transaction is basically between the seller and the credit card company, and it is their money they are protecting.

With a debit card it is your money, and the only rights you have are the usual consumer rights (faulty goods etc)

Thanks to you both for your answers
If it has the Visa symbol on it, then yes

"But any debit card that operates within the VISA scheme also carries cover. Visa says it has strong rules in place to protect cardholders, and you should contact the card issuer."

Any protection afforded to debit card transactions will be dependent on the card provider (Visa, Maestro etc.) e.g. Visa require banks offering their debit cards (any debit card with the Visa symbol) to offer chargeback facilities to a customer who finds goods are not supplied or to the standard promised provided the transaction falls within the scope of their rules.
