Do I pay VAT on safety footwear?

Is VAT payable on purchases of safety foootwear? I am confused as some websites are saying no VAT but others are adding VAT to full purchase cost. Please help!!! TIA

If they are truly safety boots to satisfy a legal requirement in your workplace, VAT is not payable

Be aware, protective boots for industrial use may be zero rated for VAT (although not when purchased by employers for use by their employees), but protective shoes are not...
