I recently got a new job and will need to do a bit of traveling for meetings throughout Europe. Hotels, meals etc will be paid for up front by me then claimed back through expenses. I have decided to get a credit card to pay for these expenses and then pay the balance as soon as I get it back from work.
Can anyone recommend a credit card as I have never had one before?
If not, see if your normal Bank will issue one. That way, you don't risk getting into debt ... you are only spending what you already have. Plus, you get it back from the Company.
Or get a Prepaid Credit Card (Google it). You pay money onto it, then use it like a personal Bank, just for your expenses.
With Debit Cards and Prepaid Credit Cards, you don't pay interest.
Credit cards don't charge interest if you pay in full each month.
For travelling abroad, Abbey Zero, the Post Office Credit Card and Nationwide Credit Card are 'best buys' are they give a very good exchange rate and no charges for using abroad - but don't use them to get cash advances.
Nationwide Flexaccount debit card is another good card for use abroad.
Prepaid credit cards may not be accepted everywhere.
I use a Mastercard abroad as security at the hotel and then pay with my Nationwide Visa debit card. I have never had any problems. The NV also lets you withdraw cash abroad with no charge.
Make sure they destroy the Mastercard receipt or give it to you to destroy when you pay.
Alternatively, set up a direct debit for the Mastercard - no nasty shocks this way.
