The Government uses Anti-terror Laws... ...against Iceland.
The Government has used the 2001 Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act to freeze the estimated 4 billion worth of British financial assets in a failed Icelandic bank, it has been revealed.

There has clearly been no terrorist threat, so is it wrong to misuse the legislation or do the ends justify the means?

You will notice that the 2001 Act covers different offence headings; Terrorism, Crime and Security.
Part 2 Freezing Orders are not in relation to terrorism.
"The Treasury may make a freezing order if... the Treasury reasonably believe that action to the detriment of the United Kingdoms economy (or part of it) has been or is likely to be taken by a person or persons, [and] that the person is the government of a country or territory outside the United Kingdom, or a resident of a country or territory outside the United Kingdom."

Brown, you cunning little devil, you. Annex Iceland, and regimechange coke snorting mother of the year, Kerry Katona. Then give the groaning masses free Fabs and Zooms so that we forget about the impending financial meltdown of the world, and stare giggling into the distance, slack jawed with pupils blown on E numbers.
I didnt read the story, but I guess that's what it's about.

Next years council tax increase excuse is now in place.
Councils deserve all they get for sending our money overseas in the first place. Unbelievable. It shows you the type of idiots we have running councils. The fact that Brown hasn't condemned what they did and is blaming Iceland doesn't hide him from the fiasco either. Tell the public how much Government money was invested in Leahman Brothers, Brown.
How many councils have 'invested' our money in other countries around the world? That money should be in this country for the benefit of the local people, not used as a lottery or saving scheme in offshore accounts.
I wonder how many other councils have 'invested' money with other financial banks around the world. I say everyone stops paying their council tax now until we get written confirmation that 1. that money is not being invested (it should be spent for what we pay the money for it is not a flaming savings scheme) 2. In which countries our money is being syphened out of this country.
This country gets worse by the minute.

yes socket2008, they should have stashed all the money under their mattresses - that would have been far more sensible.
