Barclays.

I agree with redcrx- I'm one of those that aften asks why this sort of info would be useful but my question is rarely answered.
I've said this before and I'll say it again.

Collecting bank sort codes is the new trainspotting.

SortCodeBankers (or something that rhymes with it) are a group of people who wear anoraks, jogging bottoms tucked in their socks, jamjar specs. They usually have dandruff, acne and an assortment of arresting personal defects. They carry thermos flasks, jam sarnies, a notebook and pen. They loiter beside ATM's hoping to collect disgarded receipts to add another sort code to their collection.

Mchealey will now be drooling over his thermos having added a new one to his collection.
spam, Mrs-O, spam sarnies

A q I have often wondered too
My theory is they are trying to set up a fraudulent payment on someone's account and decamp with the proceeds before it can be challenged.
oh, mrs_o!!
OH MY GOSH MRS O!!!
Who knew?
tut tut! :)

Actually, I am not a spammer, a fraud, or anything else, and I am female. I work for a family trustee office and we make regular payments to a (now deceased) pensioner and have done so for many years - before I started work here. There is no record of which bank we pay to, only the sort code and account number. I need to write to our bank to cancel the payment - I am sure our bank could have found it, but it's so much nicer to do a complete job, don't you think?? What a lot of cynical people are out there.
so why would anyone come onto answerbank, register an ID and ask the question when they could just google it as i did?

the questions of sort codes are asked over and over again. Are they all from trustees? No, i very much doubt it. Thats why we ask.

at least you replied :)
Some direct debit mandates ask for the bank sort code, account number and address of the bank.

For example the bank I originally opened my account with has now closed (as I'm sure many peoples banks have), the account was transfered to a different location. Can't remember if the sort code changed, but I for one don't have any idea of the address of my bank, therefore it would be perfectly valid for me to ask what bank had a specific sort code.

As for finding the number of Google, well almost all the questions on here can be answered using a Google search so that's a whole different story.
This is a handy tool for this type of question:
