If I make a purchase with a credit/debit card, and then need a refund for that purchase, does said refund HAVE to go back onto my card or can it be refunded in cash ?

it has to go onto the card to prevent fraud

It depends on the shop - some have refunded me in different ways in the past but the majority of them like it to go back onto the same card

Used to be that after about 10 days you could get a cah refund on a debit card transaction. This has changed and now most stores will insist that the refund goes back to the source of payment.
