National Minimum Wage

i know the minimum wage went up on the 1 October, and i know for a fact i am still on 3.80 and i am 18.
my boss's excuse is that they are waiting for a letter to begin issueing the higher wage - but i am entitled to it as of from 1st oct aren't i?!
So why am i not getting it and what can i do about it?!

Yes you are entitled to it from 1 October, but don't worry too much, if your employer doesn't pay it to you now, then as well as getting into trouble with the Inland Revenue, they'll also have to pay you any arrears. Just make sure that you contact the Inland Revenue - the NMW helpline is part of IR. Your emplyer won't get a 'letter' - the change in the NMW rates has been published in the national press and was included in the 'Employer's Bulletin' magazine that IR sends out to all employers.
