Hi. A friend, who lives in Spain has recently been told that he will not have to pay any (Autonomo) Social Security payments if his profit for the year is less than 8000 euros. Do you know if this is the case?

If youre self employed you ay autonomo monthly at the rate of 249 euros.
At the end of august the government will decide if you are entitlked to a rebate.
He should have an accountant anyway who he will pay monthly and should tell him this.

This is the case in tenerife and may vary slightly dependant on what province of spain.

hope that helped

That was one fast answer, Legendis! Thanks. Can you confirm this exemption is the case? ie 8k max profit? I have operated a small business for 2 years now and have not achieved anything like 8k profit but my accountants have said nothing about rebates to me? Or is it that I should find a better accountant?! Cheers.
