I needed �200 in 1979 , a friend gave this to me. How much would that be worth in today's money. I don't have to, but I would like to repay him. Approximation would suffice

Actually he did this for me before I emigrated. We lost touch and have recently met up again since my return. I feel sure he could use the money.
Yes, it's good to see someone taking responsibility and not seeking a way to wriggle out of paying known debts .
