How long do postal orders take to clear and can you only get them from the post office?

You can only get them at a Post Office.

If the PO is crossed then it has to be paid into the named person's bank account. It takes the same time to "clear" as a cheque.

If it is uncrossed then the recipient can get cash for it over the counter at any post office. They may be asked to prove their identity.
