i believe once all the debts in a marraige were shared regardless whos name they were in , is this still the case ??
. ie if the wife took out a credit card in her name only and then defaulted on it , would the husband become liable for the debt ?
(just for the record this post doesnt refer to my marriage)

No, the husband would not be liable for any debts run up in his wifes sole name - and vice versa.

What about if the husband has ran up debts on the wifes c/card ?


Doesn't matter - she will sign something saying that any debts accrued on her card are hers - unless of course he took them out illegally (ie without her knowledge) - in which case it is fraud
