I have tried unsuccessfully for six months now to open a basic bank account, even been in touch with C.A.B. to no effect, I am going crazy, only got Post Office card to obtain my pension, unable to put in any money, small pension from Norwich Union mounting up at the company, unable to obtain it or pay bills, except by keeping cash on me all the time. if the Post office is closed I have not money or access to any, desperate, please help.

i would suggest not trying to open a current account, basic or not.  Try a savings account with a atm card.  Try halifax instant saver account. You can also credit money in from transfer and do direct debits

Are you being told any reasons why you can't open an account?  Is is that you fail the credit score or can't provide appropriate ID?

Halifax and NatWest bosth offer basic accounts that they open for practically anyone that can prove who they are.  You won't get a cheque book or anything but should get a debit card and be able to use direct debits.

Sorry, being dead thick, I've just seen in your heading the reason why most Banks will turn you down....

Take a look at this page: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cache:ajaXd6S5UekJ:www.fsa.gov.uk/consumer/pdfs/bank_account.pdf+bank+accounts+bankrupt&hl=en

At the bottem there is a table and you will see that a small number of accounts only list record of fraud as a reason to decline people. I would suggst you approach The Co-Op and ask about their cash saver account.

Good luck and I hope it works out.

Jennie

HSBC basic bank account: [Edited for legal reasons - AB Editor]
Go straight to Natwest and Open a 'Stepo' account - only requirements are that you live and have a UK address - If you remember their adverts from about "...not looking at your previous but your future transactions... - they still use this.
My Father's a discharged bankrupt of some four years now and his credit rating is excellent - he has three bank accounts, four credit cards and two mortgages - all looked after sensibly - you can get your status back it just takes a little time - good luck.
