i haven't had a reply in Finance - I just want to know people's thoughts on internet banking, I am thinking about signing up to internet banking, but am slightly concerned about identify fraud, etc. If I do sign it will be with Barclays. Just would be grateful to hear your thoughts. Thanking you x

I've used internet banking for 5 years and never had any problems. You need a number and 2 passwords to log on and even then, there's a limit to what info you can access - and any money you transfer takes a couple of days or so if its not another account of yours with the same bank. It could be said its easier to keep track of any dodgy activity since you'll be more likely to check your account more thoroughly, more often. My husband had some problems with something else but he'd never have noticed if he hadn't been checking his account - you don't tend to sit and pore over your statement when it arrives in the post, do you?
I also bank online & have never experienced any problems. One tip though. Remember your bank will never send you emails asking for your sensitive information ie: password/log in number and there are sharks out there that send emails purporting to be from your bank & they do look official so be on your guard. If you remember all this information then you will be ok. I find it useful & sure you will too. hope this helps
Just how many people do you need to ask?

You're either trolling or if you are genuinely concerned, may I suggest a mattress instead.
I have also used internet banking for several years and never had any problem with my account being hacked etc.
I do internet banking, have had no problems with it. it is so easy to pay bills and check the account.
I pay every bill through internet banking. I also sort out all my brother's finances through internet banking, and have done so for several years, with no problems. I was a bit weary of it before I signed up, as I am not that good with computers, but it is very straight-forward.

And as another poster said, it is very easy to keep a check on your account. Easy enough to check it every day if you want to.
My husband banks with Barclays and when you open an account they give you a little machine you have to use every time you log on to their website. You have to enter your bank card in it and it gives you a different code every time so it is even more secure than mine, which is Lloyds TSB. I pay all my bills and do all my banking on line as I am disabled and I have never had any problems.
I sometimes use internet banking, also pay utility bills online - much quicker than phoning expensive 0845 numbers & hanging on for ages!

Also, we save £12 per annum by not receiving monthly invoices from Virgin Media. I just check the accounts online, then save them to my documents for future reference.

I also tax both our cars via DVLA online - no waiting about in post offices! It's so quick, easy & we recieve new tax discs within 3 to 4 days.
*receive

I used to do all the internet banking on a daily basis at work, also transferring monies to & from higher interest accounts, etc. Also did the monthly payrolls & paid creditors for both premises electronically & never experienced any problems back then either.
from personal experience put it in a zip up bag and put it under your pillow
I've often thought about doing that with our savings Prudentia! The interest rates are diabolical at the mo'! ;o{
Have been internet banking for a good few years now and can't bear the thought of being without it. My bank has also just introduced a new super duper security system. I have never had any problems. I check everything very regularly. Pay all my bills, set up payments, switch between accounts, order new cards/check books. Everything has its risks. All you have to do is make sure you don't take any notice of all the spam emails that supposedly come from your bank.

Yes, money under the mattress seems a good idea at the moment! (Not that I have that much!!).
My Granny had the right idea - she used to keep all her smackers in pockets on her big silky bloomers! She used to be quite proud of showing them off when having a knees up too!

She lived until she was 98 & got through life without electronic banking! lol
don't know if I could manage that smudge.............you'd need to keep your knickers on..................
lol craft - she was such a good crack my Granny!
I have never used internet banking, and never will.

Those crims are just as clever as the banks, if not cleverer.

Also I read about someone who accidentally paid money into the wrong persons account - several hundred quid. Of course the person who got the money wouldn't give it back, even though the bank asked.

The bank said it was her fault so they wouldn't reimburse. If she had not been doing internet banking it wouldn't have happened.
There have been no mistakes on my bank accounts in the years that I have been in control. I trust myself more than the banking staff. It's my money and therefore I make damn sure I do things correctly. There had been mistakes made on my accounts before internet banking. I like to look in almost everyday.
i am with smile.co.uk and never had any problems
We haven't had a mortgage for years now, but when we did, it was on Direct Debit. We received a letter from our building society saying that a particular month hadn't been paid - shock horror!

On checking with our bank, they said our d/d payment had gone into someone else's account - not to the building society! This wasn't the first error they had made either!

Needless to say, we weren't impressed & switched banks!

Ever since I've been doing electronic/online banking, etc., I/we've had no further problems.
What the alternative. Writing cheques.......most businesses refuse to handle them plus the waiting time to clear. Credit cards.........what with all that skimming going on. By post........when they are not on strike or your post ends up at someone else's address. Or at the local branch.......where its not very private and there are plenty of pickpockets around waiting for you to emerge.
