Obtaining payment from a "charge" on a property

Hi, as a result of the break-up of a previous relationship I lost my home to my ex-partner but a charge was put on the property meaning that they had to pay me my share once certain conditions or "trigger points" were met. One of these trigger points was that they may not co-habit at the property for a period of more than six months but they have had a live in partner for over a year now so it is well overdue. I have tried on several occasions to ask my ex-partner when they plan to resolve the issue as they can easily afford to pay this debt but so far they refuse to answer my correspondence. The whole affair left me completely broke so I can't afford to employ a solicitor to help me resolve this issue. Does anybody know if there is a "D.I.Y." way of me obtaining this money as I really need it to re-start my life. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone may have.

Contact the Citizens Advice Bureau as your first port of call. They really do give up-to-the-minute excellent advice these days. Good luck.

Would you qualify for legal aid in this matter, just asking ,do not know your financial postion obviously.?
At the CAB there is often the use of a solicitor who you may be able to see for free for a short time on an appointment basis.
Sometimes solicitors where you live may offer a short free consutation. Good luck.Brenda.

Thanks for your replies. I have been in touch with the CAB and they were indeed very helpful, I have to go in and see some-one at their office next week. I would be entitled to legal aid but as I understand it if any money is paid to me as a result of a funded case I would then have to pay any fees back again and would probably end up out of pocket. I am already in a dire financial situation due to not receiving a penny back from the home I worked for 15 years to pay for and can't afford to lose any more.
