and scroll down for a couple of pages in the article you will find a very helpful coloured table which lists all the main banks and building societies in the UK. The table is coloured so that those who belong together under the same FSA registration are shown in the same colour (or identified by number for those who are colour-blind). This means that if you save money with more than one of the institutuions sharing the same registration, the maximum compensation you will received, in the event of the bank failing, will still only be £50,000.
