Starmer In Jobs Push.....right Oh!

Hello all. I wish to take out L&CI cover, but am having difficulty due to the fact that I want it to include aviation-related activities. I am about to embark on my Commercial Pilots Licence course, which will involve a period of study in the USA, which I will want to cover too. It is to cover my training debt, and not to protect a mortage. Since most of my time will be sat in a plane, many of the companies I have contacted thus far do not cover it, except as a passenger in an airliner. Can anyone recommend a company please? Many thanks!

If you already hold a UK pilots liscense, it will be necessary to obtain a US certificate (they are called certificates here, rather than liscenses) before obtaining insurance. This can be done based on your UK liscense. One has to have a US certificate before acting as pilot in command of a US registered aircraft in US airspace. All ICAO signatory countries impose this requirement. For that reason, you may be issued the US private pilot certificate based on your UK liscense of any grade, (other than Student Pilot of course). Check www.faa.gov for more information. If you are going to be training at a school such as Embrey-Riddle or University of North Dakota Center for Aerospace Sciences, their student services can help you as well... Luck and blue skies!
Julee, I'm British and a retired airline pilot. I suggest you contact the British Air Line Pilots' Association (BALPA), as insurance of one's livelihood is something all sensible commerical pilots have, and BA:PA know about such things. Find them at www.balpa.org or e-mail [Email address removed in accordance with site policy - AB Editor]
(Note to AB Ed: That URL and e-mail address are published in the BALPA journal The Log, which is available to anyone who cares to buy it as well as members. They are in the public domain.)
