credit card protection refunds,claiming back,any advice?

im looking into seeing if i can reclaim any charges for my credit card and loan,but am unsure exactly what i have cover for.if i ring them and ask are they obliged to tell me or do i need to inform one of these firms to do it all for me?i don't mind them doing it as i haven't got time writing letters to ombusman etc,just there seems to be that many and not sure what all their jargon means!!anyone had dealings or experience from any of this?would be greatly appreciated,thankyou.
