Tracing an old endowment

When I took out my mortgage, it was an endowment type. As it became apparent it wouldn't pay the mortgage on maturity, I stopped paying into it and switched the mortgage to repayment. I remember the company being taken over, but can't remember by which company. I found the document recently, but don't know who the policy is currently with. How do I find this out as I would like to redeem it.

Can you Google the name of the original company?, that should tell you which company took it over - you can then contact them and ask what can be done.
