I have some gold jewellery I want to sell, I won't be posting it to one of those sites you see on the tellie, I am thinking of putting it on ebay. Can i weigh the gold on ordinary kitchen weighing scales, or will they not be accurate enough ??
I doubt it.each piece should first be separated in type of gold ie 9 - 14 or 18 carrot etc. and then weighed on a scale that measures the weight in gramms.
It's not easy. Gold is weighed using the troy ounce, which is different to the ounce on your kitchen scales.

A troy ounce is 5760 grains, compared to 7000 grains for the standard 16 oz to the pound.
why don't you go to a jeweller who buys second-hand and say you are thinking of selling? I did this with some silver and he told me how much it weighed and what he'd give me - so I took it away again, but at least I know the weight now. I got £40 for an gold wedding ring a few weeks back, from that jeweller.
Well I've sent off for some from ebay now. So how do I convert the ounce to the troy ounce ? Sorry not mathematically minded ........ looks quite complicated on your thread hc :). May be if i sell my gold on ebay, i will sell it by the kitchen scale ounce !
