No, not VAT.
Stamp Duty Land Tax may be payable on the transaction depending on the transfer value.
I went blank there....

On the basis of teaching a man to fish such that he can feed himself for life, I don't hold such info in my head, I merely typed SDLT into Google and it found the relevant pages at HMRC's website. If you didn't know the term SDLT, then it would probably find the same thing if you typed 'land tax' or similar into Google.
That would be a great idea and I would vote for that one personally, but it would be considered back tracking by a (silly) government that is supposed to be committed to green issues, and carbon usage is a big part of it's policy
