I am looking at finding out the name of a previous owner of a house but I don't know how to go about this. Just a name would be fine but I don't really know where to start. Any ideas?

It might make a difference as to whether you're seeking to go back 5 years, 50 years or 500 years! However the title deeds to most properties usually list everyone who has owned them. You can download the title register (for £4) from here:

Chris, are you sure? My deeds only show my name and the person I bought off....
Hmmm
My deeds show all the owners of the house, right back to the company which built it.
Interesting... I am in a leasehold flat so perhaps that's where the difference lies?
