Flaming nerve of that lot!
A P.A.Y.E computer is faulty at the IR or at HM Customs , whoever it is robbing us, the letters have been sent out so if you are one of the unlucky sods, you will get yours on Tuesday, for "under payment of tax"
you could be amongst those to get a rebate as well for "over payment of tax"
I wonder if they will be fined £100 for this + interest on a daily basis,
somehow...I think not!

They have a brand new computer system apparently Bobi that has picked up this error. I didn't hear anything about over payments being reimbursed on the news I listened to. Just that over one million people will be billed for about £1,500 each. Personally, I am suspicious. And I honestly don't think it is morally right to claim back because of the giant mistakes of HM Revenue and Customs.
And yes we will probably be one of the unlucky ones. We always seem to get clobbered one way or the other! It would be nice to sometimes get a windfall.
You should have been brave and put this in 'News'!! I bet you daren't!! ;o)
I'm going to get a big fat rebate.

(oh, and a lottery win)

It did say over payers will get a rebate...I can hope huh?
LOL
Every year we seem to get a rebate and then a few months later they say we have underpaid by much the same amount. We have given up trying to fathom it out!!
I heard this on the radio this morning too. Seems a bit steep since they made the error, but I suppose they can't give rebates to some without taking some off the others, otherwise only the overpayers would benefit. I hope I am in the rebate bracket but I am not hopeful, I check my and OH tax each financial year end on the HMRC website and it always seems right...
I regularly get e mails saying HMRC want to give me a rebate.

The just want my bank details to give it to me.

I guess these fraudsters will have a field day now, with people hoping for a rebate.

they should hold their hands up...fair cop , and write it off as there mistake, but still rebate the ones who have overpaid...LOL (with the money they took off the over-paid)
You are probably right Hopkirk. I get those emails too! Oh dear, I can see problems.

cue song LL
♫ There maybe trouble Ahead ♫
For some reason I have huge doubts that the amounts of overpayment and underpayment will level themselves out!
LL is now singing said song!! It will be on my mind all day now.
boxtops.

Do you mean you check the code only - or that you check to make sure you have paid the correct amount of tax .
Is there an explanation of how the tax is calculated each month , on the site ?
Here you are Berti, take a look http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/paye.htm

Thankfully I have a reasonable relationship with my tax office so I am fairly confident that my current tax code is (was) correct.

♫ I'm a believer...♫
I keep a spreadsheet showing my income and tax paid, make sure it all tallys and if not I contact the tax office..........I'm quite confident I don't owe them, and after the last refund I claimed, they don't owe me.
