From reading a couple it sounds either as if it's a scam, or some of the banks have sold off their debt collection agencies to them. Have you owed money in the past?
This is one of the links http://forums.moneysa...owthread.php?t=417860 , and there is another one (grumbletext) which corroborates that it's a debt collection agency. I think you need to seek advice.

If it's a scam then it sounds as if it's trying to frighten people into parting with money.

quick update i have researched loads on the net into these and they are a company who are activley trading i have read a thread where a lady called trading standards about this and was informed they are a real company. I have also read that they are brutal on the phone and really insulting. which i am not calling to hear that. troble is my name on the letter is spot on .. so making me a little nervous. I hope they do come to the property as its not mine i just live here!!
Boxtops i am pretty sure I would have known if i owe money :( If they suggest I do in anyway which is what i suspect It would make me feel ill. I have read threads which ppl have said they owe nothing out and when they called they were telling them they owe money and they have now done there job by locating you and the recovery company will be in touch?? i find this odd. private detectives dont disclose they are after you
Donna, it is up to debt collection agencies to prove that you owe the money, not for you to prove you don't. (I am sure others have said this on here before.) Let them take you to court, that will be their ultimate threat perhaps - they can't send in the bailiffs if they don't have a court order, and if you don't owe anything then surely they won't get one. You could go to the CAB perhaps and ask for further advice, or if you have a solicitor, ask them to send a letter back for you, telling them to push off?
PS - if this is the case about locating you, then the debt recovery companies HAVE to tell you who has instructed them to recover money. Say it's Littlewoods for example - you then need to get in touch with Littlewoods and confirm that there is no debt, so the debt collectors can be called off. It's only the company who instructed the debt collectors who can call them off.

I have enough on my plate at the moment with family being ill.Every letter that comes will go the same way shreaded!! bloody cowboys I recon xxx
