sorry bedknobs I used the wrong name I meant Council Tax. I think you are being pernickity!
anything over 6000 is taken into account and the benefit reduced by £1 for every £500 savings
Savingsd of over £16000 automatically exclude you. However, income is more important when working out if you are entitled
sorry, i meant to say every 500 of savings over 6000 will result in them assuming you have an extra £1 of income a week
What are your ages and circumstances, job etc?

tr t we are 79 and 80 and well and truly retiredMy husband has a small private pension
If you're renting privately, 'Housing Benefit' is now paid as 'Local Housing Allowance'. The maximum amount available depends upon which area of the country you live in. See here:
https://lha-direct.vo...k/Secure/Default.aspx

The amounts of benefits available to you (including Housing Benefit/LHA, Council Tax Benefit, etc) can be estimated by using this online calculator:

Chris
If you are entitled to guaranteed Pension Credit (you need to check for this) then you may get full housing and council tax benefit - depending on the level of your rent.

Ask your local CAB to do a benefit calculation for you if you are unsure when you have looked at the website Chris has identified.
