hiya all im wondering if you can help me at all on this matter. I keep having phonecalls, approx 4 a aday from a number that doesnt show up therefore i dont answer it (ive never answered call that hide there number), anyways messages are being left asking me to contact them regarding my account and that its urgent. Im very suspicious of this for a number of reasons, the first being that the people leaving messages are american, i dont have a account with quick quid, infact never heard of them and thirdly ive recieved any kind of post with them etc. Does anyone know if theres a new scam going about????? Its sounds fishy to me

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.No, I've not heard of this scam. A quick google search on "Quick Quid scam" throws up lots of hits but the 'scam' they all seem to be referring to is the exhorbitant interest rates of over 1000% p.a.
Do the callers give your name? It may be that they simply hold the wrong phone number for one of their members.
Of course the callers may not be from Quick Quid in which case you can ignore them. They may just be trying to sell you a loan.
There is a risk, of course, that someone may have taken out a loan using your details.
Why don't you just answer it once - it may help set your mind at rest.

As an aside, do you mind letting us in on why you don't answer calls that don't show up? I work for a Council and when people leave messages with the call centre asking for a call back, it drives me potty that they won't answer the call, but the simple fact is that when you call through a switchboard the number is never going to show up!
Companies mostly don't leave a number - my employer doesn't, if someone tried to return a call via our switchboard there would be no way of the operator knowing who of hundreds had rung out to that number.
The best advice is to invest in the Call Preference Service or another blocking service, it has stopped the majority of our spam phone calls.
If it's that urgent, they would be writing to you anyway, don't be fooled.
Whatever you do, if you do answer, don't give them any of your details, if they are genuine they will already know who you are and your name and date of birth etc.
