Is VAT payable on food in any way, be it hot or cold /eat-in or takeaway ? please could you let me know..a discussion I just had with someone, I said no and they said yes... so just curious ??

yes. Chocolate has vat on
some luxury foods have it.....

plus hot take away foods have vat on but not cold
It can depend on the product, there was the famous Jaffa Cake some years ago where the government calimed they were chocolate covered biscuits, which were liable for VAT, while McVites claimed they were chocolate covered cakes which were VAT free. It went to court and McVites won, which is why there is VAT on chocolate digestives but not Jaffa Ckes

Definitely. On my listed bill from Tesco Online grocery shopping they always say which foods have been Vat charged.
