Unclaimed revenue from a deceaseds estate

I have recently been watching the programme Heir Hunters on television, and am aware that any unclaimed estate value reverts back to the government of the day. Does anyone out there have any idea just what they do with the estimated £12 million per year that the government coffers inherit?

In some parts of the country - Duchies of Cornwall/Lancaster - I believe it's put to charitable use. Elsewhere - dunno

Only £12 million per year; I would have thought it would have been more than that!

If you can prove you are a relative of the deceased the money can be reclaimed from Chancery I believe. I have an uncle who is said to have died intestate an his money is in Chancery, but I haven't a clue how to find out who he is. Dotty will know more about this rebcs.

AYG if he is your uncle he is of course closely related via one of your parents and that would be easy to find, the list is available online to check.
