Wanna Win A Horse?

This is an unusual prize. I was going to enter it myself .... but not sure if a horse could live in a city centre flat.

I suppose it would be ideal for a youngster who wants a horse and whose parents have no money to buy one.

fabulous for someone. I have seen win a racehorse competitions before but not for a riding horse. They cost a lot to maintain.

Am not keen on animals being homed thru prize giving.

It's through an Equine magazine though Tambo so I doubt there will be an issues, but it does seem a bit of duff prize. You can't give even very good horses away at the moment. We do a bit of ex racehorse work and have a TB we've been trying to re-home for about the last 6 months and whereas before that's always been fairly easy to find the right home, with the present economic climate people with horses are abandoning them because they can't afford to keep them, can't sell them, can't give them away and the meat price is crazy low. I'm not talking about old knackers either there are some good young quality riding horses who have done everything free to anyone who'll take them. It's tragic:(

They do seem to be doing things the right way. the prize is actually money to buy a horse and support (control) during the buying process. Candidates will undergo a pretty stiff assessment and also the place that the horse will be kept will be visited and assessed too.
Down here in the New Forest action has been taken to reduce drastically the number of foals born each year. The commoners (pony owners) created blue murder when the limitations were first imposed but it seems to have stopped yearlings being sold at auction for a fiver and being crammed in the back of estate cars to be taken away.

I have seen a few competitions where the prize was a share in a racehorse, but this prize is new to me.

I just hope that whoever wins the prize knows that caring for any animal is a great responsibility. And horses are expensive animals to care for.

I think that I will stick to my moronic moggie siblings.
