It was thought that on naval warships, cannonballs were stacked on deck in a pyramid on a brass tray called a 'monkey', which had indentations in it to rest the balls in.13 Sept 2014

Tilly---I think that bullets are the modern name for the ammunition for a gun . The old days it would have been balls. At least I think so.

I suppose we'll never know, Andres. However, I do know that cannonballs are not fired from pistols.🔫

Tilly---Canon balls were the ammunition for the canon . Modern equivalents are ---gun(canon) and bullets(canon balls).

Andres, 'canon balls' is spelt cannon balls.

The clue has only two n's.
