Is it me or can you not even go into a store and when about to purchase your chosen item - just when you thought it was safe to pay and make a quick getaway - you get bombarded with "do you have a Nectar card, store card, reward card, points card?" OR "Are you collecting the active kids vouchers" - the list is endless...I have just been to get some petrol and I counted 6 questions asked by the checkout lady which I simply answered 'No' to .....

I find the loyalty cards great. It`s no hassle to hand them over when paying. As for assistance with packing I for one have been very grateful for this. I`m not infirm/disabled/elderly but I had had major surgery & an assistant unloaded my trolley on to the belt, packed it & put the bags into my trolley.
looking at it from the other side of the counter Roughquest, we are trained to ask foir the nectar card, if we don't ask and then the customer remembers after they have completed the transaction, it holds up the queue to add the points onto the card afterwards. In a survey of customers, on of the top suggestions was that the card was asked for, as many customers forget about it.
As for the account card, the staff are also trained to offer the card, because it is important to establish a solid customer base in any business, it is an effective and popular way of securing customer loyalty.

They are checked by mystery shoppers and have to ask various things. In Tesco they have to ask if you need any help with packing other stores will have slightly different policies.
Some board meeting somewhere decides what they need to do to satisfy some survey somewhere, and then that is what the staff have to do.
My pet bugbear is getting out of a DIY store past the double glazing and conservatory seller. I try not to be rude though. They are just ordinary people trying to earn a crust.

Panic button you gave me a panic attack from laughing. Where is your local Tescos, at my superstore having put off shopping for weeks, it was after ten o clock at night - the surly assistant in the till area TOLD me to put about 250 quids worth of stuff thro' self scan. I declined her request three times then called the Manager. I wanna shop in your store !!!!!!!
I worked ar Argos for MANY years and the list of stuff we had to ask on the till was endless! The thing is, they send in people to 'Mystery shop' you and if you don't ask the 3 sides of A4's worth of question, you get a right royal telling off from your manager. TRUST ME, the cashiers don't ask it to annoy you, far from it, I hated asking, made me feel like Jeremy Paxman on university challenge :(
