I couldnt think what to get for my grandchildren who are having a joint ceremony later this month. Daughter told me the specially designed celebration cake is quite costly so I am paying for that.

okay, would suggest a children's classic book in a nice binding or a boxed collection e.g. Beatrix Potter, more expensive, a decent piece of silver, plainish design. A decent set of childs' china (Bunnykins?) A gift voucher for the Early Learning Centre or other decent baby/child shop. A Steiff bear.

Start a collection of childrens classics in nice bindings and get another one every year on the anniversary of the christening many have good versus evil themes so are appropriate without being religious.

Find a place that does stained glass on commission and get a light catcher made with a simple religious design they can hang in the nursery window

You could try finding an illustrated collection of traditional nursery rhymes & stories, this is something his parents could read to him in small doses, and as he learns to read he may enjoy it by himself. I have done this for at least 2 children over the years and each time it went down well
