My paternal grandparents died many years ago. My maternal grandparents are very much alive and kicking at 87 and 85. Grandad still digs his garden and goes for a run at 5am every day. He can still hold an audience and can enthrall a whole room with his stories and his inimitable sense of humour. My grandmother on the other had can stop him in his tracks with the words "oh do shut up B****".
At our wedding we had both of our maternal grandparents!
Both of my children had great-grannies at their weddings.
My grandchildren have all four grandparents still alive, plus 2 great-grannies (aged 95 and 88) - aren't they lucky?
Wen i was born i had 3 great grans who all sadly died before i was 12....i have two grans and a granda left, my wee papa died 7yeara ago and i dont half miss him- i DREAD ...seriously DREAD losing anyone of them cos they are more like parents than grandparents...xx
My maternal nan is still alive, her husband died before I was born. All of my husband's grandparents have passed away but they were a generation older than my grandparents (my nan is only two years older than my father-in-law)
I only had a Nan on my mum's side when I was a kid. My OH still has his Gran in her 90's and when my son was born her parents were still alive and there were 5 generations of us for a little while.
