Any Dentists On Here Please That Can Help Me With A Question?

Our 7 year old grandson has had an abscess under one of his back double teeth,
The dentist drilled through the tooth, without any painkiller. and burst the abscess. My daughter said he was having trouble to stop it bleeding. The thing is my poor little grandson was screaming in pain but the dentist turned nasty with him. Last week he had to go back and this time the dentist plugged the hole with an antibiotics paste. And today he drilled it again before filling it. My daughter said he was crying again and was in a lot of pain. This really doesn't sound right to me.? my daughter also said the dentist was puzzled why it was hurting him. Is this normal.?

Bloody ridiculous for a little kid to suffer so much. Do not bring him back there - do a bit of research on internet and get feedback from others who have attended certain dentists in your area.
I had a very similar experience as a child and was terrified of dentists well into my late teens and im 22 now and still cry when they bring out the needles, even though i know it isnt painful, thankfully another dentist built up my trust and i can actually cope quite well now, I'd dump the dentist right away and go with someone else or you'll have so much trouble in the long run.
Not being funny but is the dentist he went to foreign? i only ask because when i had an infected root canal treatment the dentist at the time tried to drill into it with anaesthetic, i nearly shot out of the chair and its was because she couldnt give me the proper anaesthetic because she wasnt trained with the ones they used at the practice.
Sorry for going on abit, hopefully your grandson gets better soon and you find a better dentist

Change dentist urgently and complain to the Practice Manager too. This is not acceptable and needs to be reported.
My dentist gave me an injection before drilling a tooth last week even though it was already dead and had no feeling in it! But the next tooth was a teeny bit sensitive so she gave me a small dose to make it as comfortable as possible. And I'm NHS.

Your poor grandson! I had bad experiences with dentists when I was a child, which put me of them for ages, but now have got a brilliant man who is really careful about making sure I have enough painkillera, and I really don't mind seeing him at all. But I'm sure that your grandson should have had the antibiotics first to let the abscess go down, and I would definitely find another dentist.

Sorry I meant to get back to you sooner. Many thanks for everyone replying. I have told my daughter what you have all said. But had to see my own dentist today and asked him. He said that is what they usually do these days with little ones but he did say it shouldnt have hurt him.? Still cannot see how.? There is a nerve in them so to my mind if they drill and hit the nerve it will hurt. Still puzzled.?
