"Following an interview on Channel 4 on Sharia law, Islamists have threatened Sudanese secular campaigner and Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain Spokesperson Nahla Mahmoud with death, calling her a ‘Kafira’ and ‘Murtada’ who has offended Islam and brought “fitnah”. The threats have been reported to the police who have closed the case and advised that nothing could be done."

These threats have been made by Salah Al Bandar a British citizen and a one time Lib-Dem councillor. He wrote

“I will not forgive anyone who wants to start a battle against Islam and the beliefs of the people…”, “Be aware of this ‘fitna’ and I know who is behind it and I will never have any mercy on her here…”, “I will have no tolerance for anyone here who talks about freedom of belief or freedom of thought or any of the other clichés…”

Can anyone explain to me why we tolerate such expressions of hate and threats of death to this woman and her family?

I'm sure that if these threats had been made by a member of the EDL or BNP there would have been arrests made.

I think you mean Islamist intolerence once again

Please stop generalising all muslims in this way - I have know and worked with many none have ever had these sort of attitudes
Jake, but what about those who do? That's the question.

My apologies - Yes Islamist would have been more apt of course.
I wasn't attempting to generalise and I'm fully aware that not all Muslims think this way.
But have a stab at answering the question anyway.
Yep it's a problem - but we really have to make this distinction - Their narative is one of a war between the west versus Islam and while people all over the place in the media and outside of it are talking about 'Islam' in these ways it just plays straight into their hands.

I haven't got the time to research this but I'm worried about the reliability of this on 2 points

- This site is one with a very specific anti-muslim agenda

- These quotes are sound bites taken out of context and displayed on this site.

I'd want to see the context before I made up my mind on him specifically.

Out of context phrases can be made to sound very threatening - if there is specifically threatening behaviour I'm sure they'll press charges

Note Nahla Mahmoud is one of the two spokespersons for this website
"Can anyone explain to me why we tolerate such expressions of hate and threats of death to this woman and her family?"

By that you mean, why aren't the police acting? Difficult to know as the only information in the link is that they said nothing can be done, but not why that might be. Seeing as they can arrest someone for a tweet or FB page, it is curious. I wouldn't suggest that this infers "tolerance" though, not withouut knowing why the police
...can't act.

Before I posted I did,of course, check the links highlighted on the above page. Using google translate as I don't speak Arabic.
What is reported in the link above does seem to be what has actually been said. Along with a lot of other rambling about Infidels and such.

This coming from a British citizen is a matter of concern to me if not you. Can I suggest that if the subject matter and the question itself is of so little importance to you that you just ignore it.
These ex-Muslims could have an axe to grind.

Yes Sandy and so could the Muslims
Islam is of course as we all know or have been told on many occasions the 'religion of peace', so nobody need fear any violence as long as they don't disagree with the wrong muslim on the wrong day..
This is why she isn't popular. Funny how it seems to be the girls and women who have suddenly started to speak out. Good for them! I've long suspected that the west would be a bad influence on them. ;o)

Naomi, as an aside, have you read The Life of Tahirih? Although sad in conclusion, it may be something of interest to you.
No, I haven't Octavius - but thank you. I'll take a look.
Threats of violence towards those who speak out against violence . . . why would anyone attempt to justify that!

Because we're all **** scared of being convicted under our own anti-racism laws. Racism only needs to be -perceived- by the person on the receiving end.

It's the age-old problem of not knowing that what you said was going to cause offence until it's out of your mouth and already too late.

There is an offence disclosed, of threat to kill intending that the victim would fear that the threat would be carried out. Now, what element of the offence is not established? Well it may be that the case is not as presented. The police themselves do not close a case like this; they seek the advice and authority of the CPS, as they do in all cases where there is any material on which to act. Bear in mind that the case in Rochdale was revived by a Muslim senior prosecutor. Given the publicity, it is extremely unlikely that racial or political sensitivity now comes into play.
Fred, the CPS make case decisions after a person has been arrested / formally accused and interviewed etc, I take it this reptile hasn't been nicked or interviewed?
