Going Away At Christmas
25 Answers
For the first time ever I think I fancy going away at Christmas.
Anyone else go away to a hotel perhaps and what do you think of it.

Our first Christmas away was a week in Torremolinos in a hotel. We had similar hotel Christmasses for a few years, usually abroad, then we developed an interest in hill-walking. We changed from hotels to renting cottages in remote parts of the UK and climbing every mountain in sight. The hotels were good, entertainment was provided, excursions were there if we wanted. Really, we started to go away at Christmas because I was fed up of watching my wife slaving away in the kitchen to make a good Christmas dinner for a bunch of relatives who didn't appreciate it. But it was tradition, you see! I managed to persuade her to go abroad, and that was the start of our Christmasses away from home. I can recommend it, if only because you'll have everything done for you, and no washing up afterwards!
As Xmas was my quiet time for my particular occupation, it was an ideal time to go away ( I was self employed).
Always on a cruise, either the Far East or Caribbean, although i fancied the former......Far Eastern Hotels are the best in the world in my opinion.
Fantastic, away from the queues in the supermarkets, the rushing around at Xmas, away from the bloody family.....fantastic.

wish my sister was a going away person but she is not - it is just her and I every year - but there are fabulous hotels south of Ireland that give you a great time - great food, great entertainment and great craic.
One year my sister said you know Conne if you want to go away at Xmas with your friends - it is okay with me but I couldn't do it if you paid me.

I did consider it after MrG died but as I only spend Christmas with people I like and I love decorating my house with bling and lights and music I decided to stay at home.
Do have dinner at my brother's.......well it gives me a day off from cooking... :-) but the rest of the time I love being in my Christmassy house with friends and any of the family members I like....and chocolate and mince pies and wine and Guinness in a tinsel wrapped glass....x...☺

Hiya Boxy,
I'm back in good 'ole Sussex on the south coast, and to be honest, it's really nice to be back home, as I was all over the globe this summer and early autumn, with a busy schedule, and not a spring chick anymore ( even though i'm a fit love-god, believe me )........>>>coughs>>>
and it's great to see the family again, and be a bit normal (even though I have been told I'm most certainly not ) :0)
Hope all's well with you and yours, boxytoppers x
