My neighbor receives attendance allowance & has asked me if I can help take care of him. I think I can claim claim for a carers allowance if I accept but will my neighbor then loose his attendance allowance???
Well, the neighbour receiving attendance allowance is one of the criteria for you receiving carers' allowance so it should be OK. Further, attendance allowance is not means tested.
No - it's separate completely. It depends on what income you have coming in, pussyfoot. Make sure pension payments are declared as that, any trust find payments are that as well - to support your general being as a pension. You are allowed to earn about £5500 from current earnings with no impact, the basic payment at just a few p short of £60 a week
If your neighbour is receiving Income Support or Pension Credit and has a Disability premium on this then they will loose that premium if you claim Carers Allowance.
