If you were estranged from a family member and they then fell on hard times or suffered a serious illness or injury, would you forgive and forget and help them out?
probably but of course, as always it would depend on the circumstances. If they needed a something from me that would save their life, probably. If they appealed to me for money; probably not
I would like to think I would but it would depend on who the relative was and why we were estranged I suppose. Charity begins at home, so the answer would be yes ( I hope )
This is not a situation I'm actually in, just wondered what everyone else would do.
I think like you black_cat, if someone needed bone marrow or something I probably would help out. As long as I didn't have to actually contact them myself. As for money or a place to live, not a chance.
yes - few noes here - good opportunity to mend fences...
it is possible and worth a try notwithstanding- that they will not be able to forgive you for helping - that is a risk you should take....
[ I have seen it - the unforgiver looks a complete fool....]
I agree doesn't do you any good to hold on to grudges. Doesn't solve anything in the long run. I try to be a peacemaker but it can sometimes get thrown back in your face, but at least you've tried and you should have nothing to feel guilty about.
