I am so very sorry to have to tell you that this morning I have received the following message from one of Chakka’s daughters.
“My Dad, had liver cancer and became very ill at the beginning of July. He died yesterday, at home with his family. He specifically asked that you be informed of his death. At his request, we are having a small family cremation, and a party later when we are all feeling a bit less shocked, perhaps on his birthday on September 21st. We can let you know the details of this if you are interested.”
Chakka, a writer and film maker, and a man of great intellect, will be well remembered by the ‘Old School’ of R&S as an extremely knowledgeable, no nonsense, debater; as a regular ‘One hundred percenter’ of the challenging Rainbow Charity Quiz, and as an aficionado of the perfect gin and tonic. Although he and I never met, we have corresponded for years, and since he told me last year when he was first diagnosed with liver cancer that he had absolutely forbidden anyone to be sad, it comes as no surprise that his last wish was for a party to be held to commemorate his life. Rest in peace, Chakka, old friend. Much love to you. x
