Am I Right To Be Feeling This Way?

me and my partner have been together for two years, three months ago we had an incident where he premeditated an assault on me, we moved on and i forgave him as it was the only time before or after he had laid hands on me. i told one close friend about the incident and he without my consent told my mum and brother. I don't speak to either of them due to a variety of issues so imagine my surprise when they turned up at my work informing me they knew, my brother recorded me for this conversation without my consent. That night my mother rang me and told me he had reported him to the police so I went to her house to try get her to drop the charge.
She was on the phone to my partner when the police arrived and they heard him say to her "I guess you know then", this on top of the fact they had a recording of me admitting it made me feel cornered. They asked to know what happened and eventually I told them, I was then told I had to go with them to the station to make a statement, nobody advised me it was my right to refuse or that i had a right to have someone with me.
Long story short they have my statement, my old phone showing a message with him apologizing for hitting me and the dates it happened, this whole mess has happened because I didn't know my rights.
I don't want him to be sentenced but because it's not me reporting it I know i can't get it stopped.
Any advice on what I can do to lessen the likely hood of him being sentenced?

You can go to the police station and tell them you wish to retract your statement and that you will not co-operate with the police, the CPS or the court in this matter.
Tell the police that if they proceed with the case you will send a letter to your partner's solicitor in his defence.
If it does go to court you can be summonsed and if that happens you must attend.
In cases of domestic violence the prosecution can proceed without your statement if they have enough evidence from other sources.

The ONLY people who will decide if charges are made now is the CPS ( Crown prosecution service)
If they think the case is strong enough they will take it to court with or without your co-operation.
hc4361 is wrong , once you have made a statement you can not 'withdraw' it.
All you can do is make a 2nd statement saying what is wrong with the 1 st one.
